Generali Group Management
The Group management committee is the international committee responsible for establishing Group strategic priorities. The committee's goal is to promote alignment between Group business units and ensure more effective and inclusive decision-making.
EMEA Regional Officer
Born in San Sebastián (Spain) on 29 August 1961.
Jaime Anchústegui has been appointed EMEA Regional Officer on April 1st, 2015. He was previously LatAm Regional Officer, based in São Paulo, Brazil, until March 2015.
He launched Generali Seguros in 2010 after being appointed CEO of Generali España in 2008 and presiding over the merger of local subsidiaries, Vitalicio Seguros and Estrella Seguros, of which he had been General Manager since 2006 and 2008 respectively.
In 2003 Jaime was appointed Regional Manager for Latin America after having been General Manager of Generali Mexico since 2000. He was head of the Administration and Finance Department at Generali Peru from 1994, having joined the Generali Group in 1993, after taking an Executive Master in Business Administration at Madrid’s IE Business School in 1992.
Jamie began his professional career as an engineer with Unieco, an engineering design corporation, when he graduated from the Politechnical University of Madrid with a degree in Agricultural Engineering.
Since February 2014, Jamie has been a member of the Board of Business directors Units of Generali in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala and Panama. He has been Chairman of Europ Assistance España and a member of the Executive Committee of Unespa, the Spanish insurers association, since 2009, and Chairman of Cajamar Vida and Cajamar Seguros Generales since 2008.
Group Compliance Officer of Assicurazioni Generali
Maurizio Basso was appointed Group Compliance Officer of Assicurazioni Generali on March 13th, 2013. He is the Group FATCA Responsible Officer and the AML Officer.
Born in Montebelluna (TV) on April 24th 1962, he graduated in Law from the University of Padua and became a lawyer.
He started his career in Generali Group in 1992 as legal consultant in La Venezia Assicurazioni and other Italian insurance companies of the Group. From 1993 to 1995 he also acted as Head of Internal Control and Corporate Secretary in Altinia SIM.
In 1995 he moved to Assicurazioni Generali working in special projects within the Group Life Coordination function.
In 1997 he moved to Alleanza Assicurazioni, working as Head of Legal. In 2002 he was appointed General Counsel and Corporate Secretary.
In 2009, when Alleanza Assicurazioni was merged in Assicurazioni Generali he became Head of Corporate Secretary for Italian Group Companies in Assicurazioni Generali.
In 2011 he was appointed Head of Italian Insurance Compliance within Group Compliance.
Group Communications and Public Affairs Director
Simone Bemporad joined Assicurazioni Generali in January 2014 as Group Communications and Public Affairs Director.
In 2012 he founded a strategic consulting company working with British and Italian clients as well as Stroock&Stroock&Lavan, a New York law firm, after ten years at Finmeccanica. He was appointed CEO of Finmeccanica North America in 2007, and the following year coordinated the government approval process for the acquisition of DRS Technologies for $5.2 billion. Bemporad joined the company after serving in 2002 for one year as chief of staff for the Chairman of Enel, Piero Gnudi.
In 2001 the then Director General of the Italian Treasury Ministry, Prof. Mario Draghi, gave him the task of coordinating the white paper on Privatization in Italy. In 2000 he became press secretary for the Institute for Industrial Reconstruction S.p.A. (IRI), following ten years of covering economics, politics and finance, while managing the press office at the Transport Federation of the Italian General Confederation of Labour (CGIL), and then at the Italian Industry Ministry.
Simone Bemporad began his journalistic career in 1988, working for press agencies, newspapers and weekly magazines. He has published books on public companies and privatization, served on several Boards of Directors, and is currently Senior Associate at the Center of Strategic and International Studies in Washington D.C.
Group General Counsel
Born in Rome on 18 June 1966. Antonio Cangeri has been Group General Counsel of Assicurazioni Generali S.p.A. since 2012.
From 2009 to 2012 he worked as Head of Group Compliance, having begun his career with the Group in 2006 as Head of Legal and Corporate Affairs and Compliance of Generali Investments Italy. Before moving to Generali, he joined Banca Fideuram in 2000, working as Head of the General Secretariat until 2006. From 1996 to 1999 he worked in the Legal and Corporate Affairs Department at Deutsche Bank.
Antonio graduated in Law from the LUISS University of Rome in 1990 and earned a Masters in Law “Legum Magister” from the University of Munich in 1995.
Antonio was Secretary of the Board of Directors of Assicurazioni Generali S.p.A. from 2012 to 2014, and held the same position on Banca Fideuram board until 2006.
Americas Regional Officer
Antonio Cassio dos Santos joined Generali as Americas Regional Officer in April 2015.
He began his professional career as a Strategic Planning Manager at Banco Bandeirantes, Trevo Insurance Co, when he graduated from Universidade São Judas Tadeu with a degree in Economics, in Brazil. He has an extensive experience in the Insurance market, in major positions such as:
- Regional Chairman and Generali Insurance CEO Latin America in Zurich (from 2011 to 2014),
- Chairman and CEO in Mapfre Brazil and Latin America (2000 to 2011) where he managed the company’s second largest operation worldwide (in Brazil). He led the merger with Banco do Brasil. Under his management, Mapfre also was awarded three times as the best place to work within insurance companies and was also awarded by Kaplan and Norton Institute – USA, as the best financial strategic oriented service company in the Americas in 2009.
Between 1993 and 2000, Antonio held several positions in companies of the Whirlpool – Brasmotor Group, such as:
- CEO of Garantech, Extended Warranty Services for Brazil
- Vice President of Credit, Appliances Business in Miami, USA
- CFO in Allianz-Adriática Brazil (1987 – 1993)
Antonio has an MBA in Finance at IBMEC Institute, an MBA in Strategy at Vanderbit University in Tennessee/ USA, Specialization in LatAm Affairs at University of Florida and Vanderbilt University Florida/USA and a Post-Graduation in Global Management at University of Navarra/Spain.
In 2013, Antonio was recognized as a “Top 5 most influential insurance executive in Latin America” by the Insurance Business Review Magazine.
Company Secretary and Head of Corporate Affairs
Born in Bari on April 21st, 1967, Giuseppe Catalano is Company Secretary and Head of Corporate Affairs of Assicurazioni Generali SpA, overseeing corporate governance issues of the Company and acting as Secretary of the Board of Directors and of the Board Committees.
From 2005 to January 2015 he acted as Legal and Corporate Affairs Executive Director of Indesit Company SpA, coordinating all the legal advice activities and corporate issues of the Indesit Group.
From 2000 to 2005 he was Head of Legal and Corporate Department of Natuzzi SpA, a NYSE-listed company; previously, he was Head of Legal Department – Statutory and Corporate bodies of Banca IMI S.p.A., coordinating relations with the group parent company and surveillance authorities, and internal legal adviser and Board Secretary of IMI Bank (Lux) S.A.
He practiced as freelance lawyer after admission at Italian Bar and graduated as Ph.D. at Scuola Superiore S. Anna in Pisa after becoming J.D. at Law School of University of Bari.
He is actually member of the Consultative Working Group of Secondary Markets Standing Committee at ESMA.
Chief Executive Officer of Generali CEE Holding B.V.
Born in Trieste (Italy) on 9 July 1965
Luciano Cirinà has been based in Prague since March 2013, and is responsible of the Group‘s business in Central and Eastern Europe.
In 2007 he was appointed CEO of Generali Versicherung AG in Austria before becoming Head of Generali Holding Vienna. From 2005 to 2006 he was Area Manager at the Company Head Office in Trieste, overseeing activities in Austria, Central and Eastern Europe, Greece, Tunisia and the Middle East. Prior to that, he served as Head of the Corporate Risks Division for Austria and CEE countries in Vienna from 1996 to 2004.
He graduated in Business Administration from the University of Trieste in 1988. Luciano was elected President of the Austrian Insurance Association in 2012.
Group Chief Marketing Officer
Born in London (Ontario Canada) on August 20, 1964
Isabelle M. Conner is the Group Chief Marketing Officer specialized in financial services brands, since May 2014, and she is based in Milan.
Prior to Generali, Isabelle was the Group CMO for Zurich Insurance Group from 2011 and ING from 2004, based in Amsterdam and London. Before ING, Isabelle spent 18 years working in New York where she ran marketing departments at several leading global financial institutions including Deutsche Bank from 1998, Weiss, Peck & Greer from 1996, and Prudential Securities from 1989. She began her career as a financial reporter, working for an online French financial information news wire based in Paris.
Isabelle holds a Bachelor’s degree in International Affairs with a minor in Economics from The American University of Paris. Her early years were spent in Asia and Africa where her father worked in the oil business, during which time she acquired a curiosity for all international things.
Chief Executive Officer, Generali Italia
Born in France on 6 July 1960.
Philippe Donnet has been Chief Executive Officer of Generali Italia since October 2013.
Before joining Generali, Philippe was CEO of the Asia-Pacific region for the AXA Group from 2006, CEO of AXA Japan from 2003, and CEO of AXA for Southern Europe, the Middle East, Canada, and Latin America from 2001. He also served as CEO of AXA RE for two years, and AXA Assicurazioni for three years. Philippe began his career with AXA in France in 1985.
Philippe is a member of the Group Management Committee (GMC) of Assicurazioni Generali. He sits on the board of the Vivendi Group. He was chairman of AXA Japan from 2006, and also spent two years as chairman of AXA RE ad AXA Corporate Solutions during his time with the company. Philippe is also a co-founder and partner of HLD Private Equity, as well as a certified member of the Institut des Actuaires Français.
Regional Officer for Generali Asia
Jack Howell is the Regional Officer for Generali Asia. He is responsible for Generali Asia’s insurance operations in both the Life and Property & Casualty businesses.
Jack has over 20 years of extensive industry experience, having worked in various markets across Asia and the United States. Prior to joining Generali, he was with Prudential plc where he held CEO positions in Vietnam and Indonesia and was responsible for driving business growth, devising and managing multiple distribution channels and closing key strategic partnerships. Before Prudential plc, Jack was with AIG where he served as the President and CEO of Philam Plans, and held several key executive positions in New York and Hong Kong. He was also the cofounder of TwentyTe LLC, a NASD/SIPC-licensed investment bank consultancy. Jack is a graduate of the Tufts University in Quantitative Economics, and holds an MBA from the University of Chicago, Graduate School of Business.
Head of Group Audit
Born in Denmark on 7 December 1966.
Anne Jaeger joined the Group on 7 April 2015 as Head of Group Audit.
Anne joined the Group after having spent more than 13 years with RSA Insurance Group. At RSA Anne has worked in different roles such as Regional Chief Auditor (across various regions), Group Chief Auditor and Regional Chief Risk & Compliance Officer. As Group Chief Auditor, Anne lived in London. Prior to joining RSA Anne spent 2 years as CFO at a global IT service management company (Maersk Data) part of the Maersk Group.
Anne began her career with KPMG in Denmark and is a State Authorised Public Accountant.
In addition to her Authorisation, Anne holds a Master in Business Economics & Auditing and a B.Com. in Economics and Business Administration, both from Copenhagen Business School. Anne is also a certified coach from Henley University, UK.
Anne is a non-Executive director at ATP which is the largest supplementary pension scheme in Denmark.
Anne is a member of the EY Audit Committee Institute (Denmark) and The Deloitte Academy (Excellence in the boardroom) (UK).
CEO of Generali Deutschland
Giovanni Liverani has been the Chairman of the Management Board and CEO of Generali Deutschland Holding and Country Manager of Germany since April 2015.
Prior to that, he was since November 2013 the Regional Officer for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), which includes Austria, Spain, Switzerland, Ireland, Guernsey, Belgium, Netherlands, Portugal, Greece, the UAE, Turkey and Tunisia. He supported the start-up of the restructuring project at Generali Italia during 2013 as Head of the Business Performance Management Unit Central Europe (Italy, Germany, Switzerland).
Between 2006 and 2013 he spent seven years internationally as Area Manager and Head of the Business Coordination Unit for Generali in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. During this period he took part in the major restructuring of German operations and launched several International group projects like “Canalgrande” and “Customer as an Asset”, aimed at strengthening the customer centricity and distribution power of the Group. In 1993 to 1994, he co-founded Genertel S.p.A., the Italian leader in direct insurance sales, which he developed from policy n. 1 into a large and innovative web insurer in the following years until 2005.
Giovanni graduated in Engineering in 1990 at the “Politecnico di Milano” university with a major in industrial technology.
He joined the Group Management Committee (GMC) of Assicurazioni Generali in January 2015. Giovanni is the Chairman of the management board and CEO of Generali Deutschland Holding and served in the past in several boards of Generali Group`s Companies as chairman or deputy chairman like Generali Vienna Holding AG, Vienna, Generali Vida Companhia De Seguros S.A., Lisbon, Generali España Holding De Entidades De Seguros S.A., Madrid, Generali Schweiz Holding AG, Adliswil, Generali Belgium S.A., Brussels.
CEO of Generali France
Eric Lombard has been the Chief Executive Officer of Generali France since October 2013.
In 2004 he was made CEO of BNP Paribas Cardif, the life and casualty insurance arm of BNP Paribas. Before this he was Head of Corporate and Financial Institutions from 2002, and Head of the Financial Institutions Group from 1997, having returned to BNP Paribas in 1993 as Head of Mergers & Acquisitions for the Banking and Insurance sectors. The move followed four years of working for the French government as adviser to Michel Sapin, junior Minister for Justice, from 1991 to 1992, and Minister of Economy and Finance from 1992 to 1993. He was also Technical Adviser in the office of Louis Le Pensec, French Government spokesman, from 1989 to 1991.
Eric began working for BNP Paribas in 1981, and spent eight years holding various positions in Indonesia and France. He graduated from the Ecole des hautes etudes commerciales de Paris.
Eric Lombard has been a member of the Group Management Committee of Assicurazioni Generali since 2013, he joined the Executive Committee of BNP Paribas in 2011. He was Chairman of BNP Paribas Cardif from 2006, and became a member of the Management Committee of the Corporate and Investment Banking Division in 1999.
Group Strategy and Business Development Director
Born in Bergamo (Italy) on 14 February 1973.
Gian Paolo Meloncelli has been Group Strategy and Business Development Director at Assicurazioni Generali since November 2015.
Gian Paolo joined Generali in January 2014 as Group Head of Business Development.
Prior to Generali he spent 6 years at McKinsey & Company, based in Milan and in Dubai he served leading banks and insurers across Western Europe, Eastern Europe and Middle East with a great focus on strategy and performance transformation.
Before McKinsey & Company, he spent 7 years at StMicroelectronics where he did extensive work in technical areas, marketing and sales in Europe, US and China.
Gian Paolo holds a Master Degree in Electronic Engineering from the Polytechnic of Milan.
Group Chief Financial Officer
Born in Verona (Italy) on 24 August 1965.
Alberto Minali has been Group Chief Financial Officer at Assicurazioni Generali since October 2012.
Prior to taking the position, he spent more than four years as Portfolio Manager at Eskatos Capital Management Sarl, which he set up himself in 2008, focusing on management of hedge funds active in the reinsurance risks area. He worked at the Eurizon Financial Group from 2005 as CIO, and concurrently held the position of CFO in Eurizon Vita, the Group’s insurance subsidiary. He worked at Allianz-RAS for five years as head of Capital and Value Management, joining the company in 2000.
Alberto began his professional career in 1991 at Assicurazioni Generali’s Group Head Office as Assistant to the Area Manager, at the Business Development – International Division. During his time with the company, he spent a period abroad in the Generali UK branch as Reinsurance Underwriter, and he was later appointed Head of Corporate finance at INA, a primary Group subsidiary specialized in Life business.
After his graduation from Bocconi University, Milan, with a degree in Economics, he went through further specializing periods at the Universities of Brandeis (Mass., USA) and Yale (Conn., USA).
Alberto is member of the Group Management Committee of Assicurazioni Generali. He is Vice Chairman of Generali Italia and board member at Fondazione Generali, as well as at Generali Deutschland Holding and DVAG.
Alberto is also Chartered Financial Analyst and member of AIMR (Association of Investment Management and Research).
Group Chief Risk Officer
Born in Monclassico (Trento, Italy) on 2 July 1958
Sandro Panizza joined Generali in 2013 as Group Chief Risk Officer.
He was Managing Director and CFO of INA Assitalia from 2010, and prior to that had been Managing Director and CFO of Alleanza Assicurazioni from 2004.
Sandro’s career has been focused on financial services since he began working for Intesa San Paolo (former IMI) in 1983, taking the position of Head of Risk Management, before moving to Banca Fideuram, where he was responsible for strategic planning, budgeting and management control.
He received a Master in Business Administration from Bocconi University in Milan in 1987, having graduated from the University of Rome La Sapienza with a degree in Economics in 1982.
Sandro Panizza is a member of the Group Management Committee of Assicurazioni Generali.
Group HR & Organization Director
Born in Milan (Italy) on 18 October 1964
Monica Alessandra Possa has been head of Group HR & Organization Director at Assicurazioni Generali since March 2013.
She joined the Group after working at RCS Media Group from 2004 as Group HR and Organization Director. Prior to which she had been at Omnitel (later Vodafone) from 1999, working in a number of different roles, such as Head of HR for Italy, Head of HR for South Europe and Head of HR for the SEMEA Region. Monica worked for The Boston Consulting Group as a Management Consultant from 1994, where she was responsible for strategic-organizational projects for clients within the consumer goods industry in Europe.
She began her career as a Management Consultant with Gemini Consulting in 1990, after working as a research and teaching Assistant at Bocconi University, Milan from 1989 to 1990.
Monica received a Master in Business Administration from INSEAD Fontainebleau, France in 1994, having graduated from Bocconi University in 1989 with a degree in International Economics.
Monica is Board Member of Generali Italia and The Generali Group Foundation. She is also Deputy Chairman of the MIB School of Management and a Board Member at Valore D.
During her tenure at RCS she was a Board Member at DADA Spa and Unidad Editorial SA. She was also Secretary of the RCS Media Group Remuneration Committee, and during her time at Vodafone was a Trustee of the Vodafone Group Foundation.
Group Chief Data Officer
Elena Rasa joined the Generali Group in 2013 as Head of Global P&C, responsible for Pricing and Underwriting activities in Retail and SME business but she has been appointed Group Chief Data Officer since June 2015.
Born in Venice in 1968, she graduated in Statistics in 1993 at the Padua University, in Computing Science at the Strathclyde University (Scotland, U.K.) and in Actuarial Math in 2000 at the University of Florence. She was also part of the PhD program in Methodological Statistics at the University of Padua, in collaboration with the University of Washington in Seattle (USA).
She started her career in 1994 in RAS, based in Milan and in Cornhill Insurance based in London in 1996. She moved four years later in Tillinghast-Towers Perrin, where she spent 10 years until 2006, gaining a wide exposure to the dynamics of the Italian market.
In 2006, she was appointed Chief Actuary in Zurich Financial Services for Italy (based in Milan), where she was responsible for pricing activities.
From 2009 to 2013, she has been Deputy Head of Pricing and Underwriting for the Allianz Group, based in Munich. Within this capacity, she was also the Head of the Technical area in Genialloyd (the direct company of Allianz Italy), where she had the opportunity to widen her multi-channel experience.
Group Chief Operating Officer
Born Karlsruhe (Germany) on 23 February 1968.
Carsten Schildknecht has been Group Chief Operating Officer at Assicurazioni Generali since April 2013.
He joined Generali after twelve years at Deutsche Bank, the last eight of which he spent as Global COO of the Private Wealth Management division. In this role, he was also responsible for the integration and turn around of Sal. Oppenheim, the private bank acquired by Deutsche Bank in 2009. Prior to joining Deutsche Bank in 2000, Carsten worked for McKinsey & Company for seven years with a focus in the Automotive & Assembly Sector, Innovation & Technology Management Practice, and Operations Effectiveness Practice.
He holds a Doctorate from the Technical University of Darmstadt, Germany and graduated in Mechanical Engineering and Business Administration.
Carsten is a member of the Group Management Committee of Assicurazioni Generali. He is a member of the supervisory board of Generali Deutschland AG and Chairman of Generali Deutschland Informatik Services.
He served as Chairman of the Sal Oppenheim supervisory board, and was a member of the supervisory boards of BSI as well as Deutsche Bank Switzerland, Luxembourg and Austria.
Chief Investment Officer
Nikhil Srinivasan is Chief Investment Officer of the Generali Group. In this role, he is responsible for steering approximately 500 billion euros in assets.
Prior to joining Generali, Nikhil was with Allianz SE for a decade in both Singapore and Munich. His last role was as Group Chief Investment Officer of Allianz SE.
Nikhil is a member of the Group Management Committee of Assicurazioni Generali. He is Chairman of the Generali Real Estate and Generali Investments Europe, and a member of the Group Management Committee of Generali.
During his time at Allianz SE he was a member of the International Executive Committee.
Group Head of Insurance and Reinsurance
Valter Trevisani was appointed Group Head of Insurance and Reinsurance in December 2014.
He had been Chief Technical Officer of Assicurazioni Generali from January 2013.
From February 2009 to December 2012, he was responsible for the operations of all foreign territories as well as of the Life, Non-Life and Reinsurance activities at Group level. Valter was promoted Assistant General Manager in 2002 and in 2007 was appointed Deputy General Manager.
In 1998 he also took the responsibility for Netherlands, followed by Spain in 1999.
In January 1996 he came back to Generali Head Office and was appointed Area Manager within the Group Insurance Operations of the Corporate Center, in charge of U.K., C.E.E. and Asia region.
From 1991 to 1995 he worked in various U.K. and U.S.A. subsidiaries of the Group in the underwriting area.
From the beginning of his career in the Generali Group to 1991 he worked at the Research Department of Generali Head Office, where he was in charge of monitoring the developments taking place in the main insurance markets outside Italy, with particular reference to Central and Eastern Europe.
Valter Trevisani began working for the Generali Group in December 1988.
Group Head of Global Business Lines
Born in Turin (Italy) on 4 December 1963.
Paolo Vagnone has been Group Head of Global Business Lines at Generali since October 2012. He joined the Group in February 2011 as General Manager and Country Manager for Italy.
Prior to taking the position he was CEO and General Manager of Farmafactoring (Apax), before which he was CEO of Italfondiario and of Torre SGR from 2007. Paolo spent ten years at RAS, becoming CEO and General Manager in 2005 after four years as General Manager. He was placed in charge of the insurance business for Corporate Clients in 1999, having joined the company in 1997 as a Reinsurance Director. From 1995 to 1997 he worked in the Power & Utilities Unit of AMP Inc, after working as an Associate and Engagement Manager at McKinsey & Company from 1992 to 1995.
Paolo received an MBA from INSEAD Fontainebleau, France in 1991. Having begun his career as a Process Engineer with AMP in 1989, following his graduation from the Polytechnic University of Turin with a degree in Electronic Engineering in 1988.
Paolo Vagnone is a member of the Group Management Committee of Assicurazioni Generali. He has been Chairman of Banca Generali since August 2012.
From 2005 to 2007 he was Chairman of RAS Bank and a Board Member at Unicredit and Pirelli.
